Four children found begging rescued in Nellore

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) officials on Monday rescued four children of a family making a living by begging near the temple in the city.

Speaking to The Hindu, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) B. Suresh said, “As per the direction from District Collector, there should be no children begging on the streets. On July 15, I observed a family at Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavari Temple. Yakasiri Subbaiah and Rama, who are residents of the ST colony in Sarvepalli village, bring their four children to the city every day to make a living by begging near the temple”. They were given counselling to admit their children into a school, he added.

After going to their village and knowing about the education of their children, the DCPO made them appear before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Monday and they were admitted into the Vastalya Home, Bibinagar in Nellore with the consent of their parents.
