Indiana Fever guard Lexie Hull failed to win the 3-Point Contest on Saturday, failing to move on to the final round after scoring just 20 points in the first round.

Hull finished fourth in the opening round, behind Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty (25), Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream (25) and Kelsey Plum of the Los Angeles Sparks (22). Sonia Citron of the Washington Mystics finished last with 19. Unfortunately, only the top two scorers advanced to the second and final round.

While it wasn’t the result that Hull hoped for — especially in front of the home fans as Indiana hosts the All-Star festivities — the Fever faithful had nothing but appreciation for the 25-year-old sharpshooter.

After all, Hull wasn’t supposed to be in the 3-Point Contest. After teammate Caitlin Clark had to pull out due to a groin injury, Hull was chosen to fill in for her. Making the situation even trickier, she was only named as a replacement roughly 12 hours before the competition.

With that being said, Hull didn’t have much time to prepare for the shootout, both physically and mentally.

“Gotta give her so much credit… she probably had no idea she’d be in the competition until about 24 hours ago,” a commenter wrote about Hull.

“Lexi gave a very good performance,” a fan added. Another one said, “[Expletive] good as a last minute substitute with out practicing.”

“She was incredible!” a poster stated.

A fifth follower remarked, “thanks girl for stepping up. You did well for being put on the spot with short notice crowd loved it. You rock!”

“She did a fantastic job! So happy that she got to feel the support of the home crowd, what a memory!” a supporter noted.
