Hyderabad: A 67-year-old businessman from Neredmet was cheated of Rs.50,000 by a fraudster posing as a Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) official. The victim, who approached the Neredmet police, said that on October 26, 2024, while searching online for Tirupati darshan services, received a phone call from an unknown person who introduced himself as Rajashekar, a TTD official. The caller offered to arrange special darshan and requested money through UPI.
Trusting the caller, the complainant transferred a total of Rs.50,000 in three transactions. After the payment, the accused stopped responding to calls and messages.
Hyderabad Woman Alleges Blackmail Over Private Images
Hyderabad: A woman has lodged a complaint with the LB Nagar police stating that she was being blackmailed by a man who hid his marital status, started an affair with her and later threatened he would release her private images if she insisted on breaking it off.
According to police, the complainant had separated from her husband about a decade ago and was staying at her maternal home. In 2019, she came into contact with the accused while attending church. They entered into a relationship with the accused saying he wanted to marry her. The victim was unaware that that he was married.
The woman stated that the accused often visited her home when she was alone and captured photographs and videos of her without consent. The victim after learning his marital background she ended the relationship. The accused then began blackmailing her to continue the affair. Fearing for her safety, the victim approached the police who registered a case and began investigations.
Guard Falls into Lift Shaft, Dies of Head Injuries
Hyderabad: Balaji Yadav of Bihar, a 60-year-old security guard, fell into a lift shaft at Babu Khan Estate in Abids and died of head injuries, police said on Sunday. A case was registered and investigation is underway.
Sub-inspector Gourender Goud said the deceased’s son, Vishwa Kumar Yadav, was alerted that his father was not to be seen in the building. He rushed to Babu Khan Estate and, upon searching for his father, found him lying unresponsive inside the lift shaft. The police were immediately alerted.
The inspector said that CCTV footage from the building showed that around 5 am, five software employees residing on the 16th floor had used the staircase to leave the building after discovering the lift was not working. They called Balaji and asked him to open the gate.
After opening the gate, Balaji returned to his duties and was later seen feeding pigeons at 6.13 am. “An hour later, footage showed him approaching the lift, opening its door, and stepping inside, unaware that the lift car was stationed on the 16th floor,” the police officer said.
Balaji fell two floors into the shaft. His body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination and later handed over to the family. Vishwa Kumar took the body to their native place in Bihar for the final rites.
Hyderabad Woman Alleges Dowry Abuse and Assault
Hyderabad: A woman from AS Raonagar filed a complaint with Kushaiguda police alleging severe dowry harassment, physical assault, and sexual abuse by her husband and in-laws. The victim who suffers from a mental condition that affects her ability to react and speak, detailed the abuse in her complaint registered with the police.
The victim stated that she was married to another man in 2020, but the marriage ended due to mistreatment. In May 2023, her parents arranged her marriage with a teacher. His parents were aware of the victim’s condition, it was stated. They allegedly demanded and received `25 lakh cash, 100 grams of gold, and 500 grams of silver as dowry.
The teacher and his family allegedly began harassing the victim for more dowry. During her first pregnancy, he reportedly kicked her in the stomach which resulted in a miscarriage. Even after she was given medical advice to avoid being intimate, her husband forced himself on her within a month.
The victim later conceived a girl in December 2024, but her husband denied paternity and spread defamatory claims, the complaint stated. The police stated that the harassment continued with support from in-laws and extended relatives, including threats to kill her.
The accused along with his parents and relatives went to her parents’ house and threatened them over additional dowry demands. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
After Shooting Video, Man Dies by Suicide
Hyderabad: A 57-year-old government school teacher, K. Ramesh from Gundla Pochampally, died by suicide on Saturday, after recording a video in which he alleged that he was being harassed by lenders even after he had repaid his debts.
Medchal police said Ramesh was under severe mental pressure due to financial liabilities amounting to `7 crore. Police booked a case of abetment to suicide and commenced investigations.
In his video, explaining why he was dying by suicide, Ramesh named some individuals whom he held responsible. Ramesh stated that although he cleared had his debts, a few individuals continued to harass him. They had also filed cheque bounce cases.
Medchal police received a complaint pertaining the suicide and reached the location and shifted the body for postmortem. Medchal inspector Satyanarayana said the investigation was underway to identify those involved in the alleged harassment. Police were also examining Ramesh’s statements in the video message.
