Skoda car Volkswagen India Limited (SAVWIPL) has issued its second seatbelt-related recall of the year, following the earlier one in April 2025. All India-made vehicles under Volkswagen Group India’s 2.0 Strategy are affected by this recall. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the latest round of recall affects 1,821 units of the Skoda Kylaq, Harshand Slaviaas well as the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun models.

SAVWIPL states that it identified two seatbelt-related issues during a quality inspection. The first involves potential cracks in the metal base frame of the rear seatbelt assembly (left or right side), which could weaken its effectiveness during a collision. The second issue concerns the installation of incorrect seatbelt components in the front or rear seats, which may not meet the required safety specifications.
A total of 860 Skoda vehicles are impacted by the latest recall, including the Kylaq, along with the Kushaq and Slavia. In addition, 961 units of Volkswagen’s Virtus and Taigun models have also been found to be affected by the seatbelt-related issue. As mentioned earlier, this is the second recall for these specific models, as SAVWIPL had previously issued a recall in May 2025 that involved 47,235 units.

As with previous recalls, it is expected that Skoda and Volkswagen dealerships will contact customers whose vehicles are affected. The inspection and necessary replacement of the defective seatbelt components are expected to be provided at no cost to the vehicle owners, in line with standard recall practices. Additionally, owners can verify whether their vehicles are part of the recall by visiting the brand’s official website.
