Hyderabad: The railway ministry has sanctioned the final location survey (FLS) for the ‘Outer Ring Rail’ alongside the proposed Regional Ring Road. A senior South Central Railway official told Deccan Chronicle that of the proposed 100‑metre‑wide RRR corridor, 70 metres will be for the expressway and 30 metres to the rail line.
The South Central Railway is preparing to submit the detailed proposal to the state government shortly. The weekend visit of the Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to the city is reported to have acted as a catalyst to fast‑track the mega‐infrastructure plan.
According to SCR, the combined RRR-Ring Rail network will provide effective multimodal connectivity for emerging satellite townships and industrial zones around Hyderabad. “It will support additional suburban services, expand long‑distance train operations, and relieve congestion on freight routes,” the official noted.
As Hyderabad’s suburbs extend to 90 km, rising MMTS and passenger traffic have strained existing lines. A dedicated freight‐corridor bypass around the Hyderabad–Secunderabad–Kacheguda region is essential to preserve seamless traffic flow.
The Outer Ring Rail will be a new 392 km line traversing Vikarabad, Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nalgonda, and Rangareddy districts. With an estimated execution cost of ₹12,408 crore, it will connect the same network of towns served by the RR and enable “rail‐over‐rail” intersections at Akanapet, Yadadri, Chityal, Burgula, Vikarabad, Gate Vanampalli, Medak, Siddipet, and Gajwel.
Estimated to cost around ₹34,367.62 crore, the RRR will cover 40 per cent of the state and link key towns including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Akkanapet, Siddipet, Gajwel, Bhuvanagiri, Ramannapet, Chityal, Narayanapur, Shadnagar, and Shabad.
