Activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday burnt the effigy of National Students’ Union of India, student wing of Indian National Congress, here at Osmania University over multiple incidents of rape in Odisha.
Its State and city leaders, Hariprasad, Raju and Pruthvi condemned the alleged involvement of NSUI leaders in the rape cases. They said the burning of NSUI effigy is their outrage over the incidents and the silence of the Congress.
The activists took out slogans demanding justice for the survivors and said that student politics should not shield those involved in heinous crimes such as rapes.
“Why is Rahul Gandhi silent when his party’s student leaders are being accused of such serious crimes? Is this the culture Congress wants to promote in student politics?” the ABVP leaders said in a statement.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, the activists also demanded action against the accused. They said more protests would be taken up across university campuses if action is delayed.
