India’s GCC market is projected to reach up to $105 billion by 2030, reflecting rising global investment.
U.S. retail giant Costco Wholesale Corp is set to establish its first technology centre in India, choosing Hyderabad as the location for its Global Capability Centre (GCC), according to sources cited by Reuters.
The upcoming facility will handle technology, research, and development operations while collaborating closely with Costco’s global teams. The centre is expected to begin with around 1,000 employees and scale up in the future, as per people familiar with the development.
Once known as low-cost outsourcing hubs, GCCs have evolved into strategic units that support global firms across functions including daily operations, finance, innovation, and R&D. India has become a prominent destination for such centres, with cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad hosting the GCCs of major global brands. Bengaluru is home to companies like JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, and Target, while Hyderabad houses centres for McDonald’s, Heineken, and Vanguard Group.
Costco has not yet issued an official comment on the Hyderabad centre. The move signals the retailer’s growing investment in technology-led operations and India’s rising strategic importance in global innovation.
