Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is said to be working on a new 100cc motorcycle to take on the Hero Splendor. The new model will sit above the Shine 100 in the brand’s line-up. Hero MotorCorp currently dominates the 100-110cc commuter segment in India with a 78% market share. So far, Honda’s answer to the Splendor’s dominance has been the Shine 100. However, it has been losing customers to its rival. The new model is expected to offer a more feature-rich alternative to the Splendor, targeting aspirational buyers. Despite the growing popularity of higher-capacity models in India, the commuter segment remains strong. The 100-110cc bikes made up more than 46% of the total motorcycle sales in FY2025. Even though Honda is strong in the 125cc and scooters segments, its market share in the 100-110cc segment is merely 6%. The company hopes to increase this with the introduction of the new 100cc bike.
