Massive gold heist in Suryapet: special teams deployed to track down gang

Suryapet: In a major gold heist, unidentified burglars looted 18 kilograms of gold and around Rs. 22 lakh from Sai Santoshi Jewellers on MG Road in Suryapet in the early hours of July 20.

The meticulously planned burglary has left the town in shock. According to police, the thieves broke into the jewellery store through a bathroom at the rear of the building. Using a gas cutter, they cut through an iron shutter and other security layers to reach the storage area where the valuables were kept.

Preliminary investigation suggests the involvement of a professional gang. Suryapet Superintendent of Police K. Narasimha, who inspected the scene, said the burglars struck after midnight on Sunday and had clearly studied the premises in advance.

Police said the suspects had rented a house near the jewellery shop and lived there for the past two months, possibly to monitor the shop’s movement patterns. Based on early leads, investigators suspect the gang may have links to Uttar Pradesh.

Special teams have been formed to track down the culprits.
