The aftermath of the tragic Indian water crash has taken a disturbing turn as British families discovered they were sent the wrong remains of their loved ones. In some cases, grieving relatives received the bodies of other passengers. In one shocking instance, remains from more than one person were mistakenly placed in a single casket and had to be separated before burial.
The crash, which occurred on June 12 when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner plunged into a medical college after taking off from Ahmedabad, killed 241 passengers and 19 people on the ground. Among the dead were 52 Britons returning home.

As if losing family members in a horrific accident was not painful enough, the families now face a second wave of trauma due to sheer negligence in handling the bodies. The situation only came to light when DNA verification in London failed to match the repatriated remains with the correct families.
The misidentification of bodies and the apparent mixing of remains show a shocking lack of coordination and accountability. According to legal representatives, Air India outsourced the identification process and is now trying to shift blame onto the hospital responsible for matching next-of-kin records.

For families who have waited weeks to bury or cremate their loved ones, this is cruelty layered on top of grief. One family had to cancel a funeral entirely after learning the person in the casket was a stranger. Another family was left asking whose remains they had received.
This failure is more than bureaucratic sloppiness. It reveals a deep disrespect toward the deceased and a callous disregard for those left behind. These families deserve clear answers and real accountability.
