Drizzles Keep the Day Soggy, Sloggy in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Drizzles continued across Hyderabad on Wednesday, bringing overcast skies and sluggish traffic through the day. Several parts of the city — Gachibowli, Madhapur, Secunderabad, Balapur, Saidabad, LB Nagar, BN Reddy Nagar, Tolichowki and Shaikpet — experienced intermittent rainfall from morning till noon.

Persistent drizzle worsened road conditions in many areas, especially in Uppal, where a 2-km stretch was marred by large potholes. Waterlogged craters disrupted traffic flow and caused long snarls during peak hours, leaving motorists struggling with rough and uneven roads.

Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams were deployed at vulnerable spots to pump out stagnant water. One such location was near Malkam Cheruvu on Chitrapuri Hills Road, where overnight rain had hampered vehicular movement. At Hitech City railway station, rainwater flowed under the bridge, adding to commuters’ woes.

Rain also brought marginal inflows into the city’s twin reservoirs. As of 6 pm on July 23, Osman Sagar recorded a water level of 1,782.80 feet (2.474 TMC) against its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1,790 feet, with inflows of 150 cusecs. Himayat Sagar stood at 1,760.85 feet (2.416 TMC) against an FTL of 1,763.50 feet, receiving 2,000 cusecs in inflows.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad is likely to remain under generally cloudy skies on Thursday, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers expected. Moderate to intense spells, accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph), are likely by evening or night. Hazy conditions are forecast for the morning hours, with surface winds expected to be westerlies blowing at 8–10 kmph.

With more rainfall forecast in the coming days, city authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly while commuting through low-lying or waterlogged areas.
