Warangal: Kakatiya University has launched an inquiry into its Department of Journalism and Mass Communication after multiple complaints of irregularities. A special committee, appointed by the Registrar in May and chaired by Prof. R. Mallikarjun Reddy (Geology), spent two months investigating. Its members included Prof. B. Suresh Lal (Economics) and Dr K. Ailaiah (Sociology and Social Work).
The probe was prompted by a letter from the University college principal on April 11 and a representation from the Part-time Lecturers Association on April 22. Complainants allege that Dr Sangani Malleshwar has served as head of the department since 2012 in violation of university norms, withheld appointment orders and bill payments from part time lecturers, and failed to provide students with daily newspapers, practical training materials, or an updated syllabus. They also accuse him of appointing three lecturers without departmental approval.
During hearings, part time lecturers described years of unpaid work and urged the committee to recommend Dr Malleshwar’s removal. They asked the university to review leadership, streamline administration, fill infrastructure gaps, and allocate workloads fairly. The committee is expected to submit its report soon.
