Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said on Wednesday that the Central government is adopting a comprehensive policy for coal sales in the country. Responding to a question by Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya in the Lok Sabha, he elaborated on the coal sale policies of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a government-owned coal mining company, emphasising their role in ensuring transparency and driving economic growth in Telangana.
Ms. Kavya sought details on SCCL’s coal sale policy for the public and private sectors and the measures taken to ensure transparency and benefits for the Telangana. The Minister outlined that SCCL adheres to key Ministry of Coal policies, including the SHAKTI Policy, the Non-Regulated Sector Linkage Auction Policy, the New Coal Distribution Policy, and the Bridge Linkage Policy. These frameworks promote fair trade, ease of doing business and equitable coal allocation to industries, including MSMEs.
“The policies have enhanced transparency in coal distribution, spurred business activity, created jobs, and increased royalty and tax revenues, significantly benefiting Telangana,” Mr. Reddy stated. The Revised SHAKTI Policy, 2025, now governs all new coal linkages for the power sector, aligning with market demands. SCCL’s adherence to these policies has strengthened Telangana’s economy by supporting industries and ensuring competitive coal access, reinforcing the State’s position in India’s coal sector, the Minister informed.
