Suns Miss Out on Reunion With Veteran Point Guard After Free Agency Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Phoenix Suns had a busy start to their offseason but since free agency began, they have been extremely quiet outside of one major move.
Of course, the Suns began their offseason by trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for a trade package centered around Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and draft capital.
They then selected Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea in the 2025 NBA Draft and also pulled off a trade with the Charlotte Hornets for Mark Williams.
In free agency, the Suns signed Collin Gillespie to a standard contract and also landed Nigel Hayes-Davis from the EuroLeague.
Outside of these moves, the Suns have failed to sign anyone else in free agency despite opening up cap space by buying out Bradley Beal.
On Monday, the Suns lost out on another player that they were linked to as future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Twelve-time All-Star Chris Paul has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, CAA’s Steven Heumann, Ty Sullivan and Jessica Holtz told ESPN. For Paul, he now returns to Los Angeles for his 21st and likely final season in the NBA, joining Beal who signed with the Clippers after his buyout from Phoenix.
Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers from 2011 to 2017 alongside DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin during the “Lob City” era.
Of course, the veteran guard also played for the Suns for three seasons, helping them reach the NBA Finals in 2021 and with Phoenix in desperate need of a true point guard, Paul was one of the players linked to them during free agency.
Despite this, Paul will now reunite with the Clippers instead of the Suns, leaving their point guard position uncertain entering next season.
There are still many point guards available on the free agent market for the Suns to sign, including Russell Westbrook and Malcolm Brogdon, or they could also make a trade to bolster the position before the start of next season.
