When veteran motorcyclist unk9ja asked if I was up for a breakfast ride to Kolar, I wasted no time in agreeing to join him, on the earliest feasible weekend. In case you haven’t already read his incredible travelogue that captured all the highs and lows of their epic group ride from Bangalore to Bhutan and back, please head over to this thread and enjoy the adventure!
Back to the breakfast ride, after we met up, I followed unk9ja through the center of Bangalore, for the first time in a very long time, to get onto the Old Madras Road and from there, we exited the city that was yet to wake up, despite the sun being out. Our breakfast location was a non-descript push cart in the center of Kolar, which served podi idlis that were astonishingly mouth watering! I distinctly remember taking my first bite and being completely overwhelmed by the dramatic flavour and unexpected softness of my breakfast.
Since unk9ja knows the area like the back of his hands, he led me through some lovely roads that eventually took us to the gorgeous Somambudi amanikere. In the past few months, Ive been riding to different dams and based on the pictures that unk9ja had shared with me, my expectation levels of this water body were tangibly high. Despite this, I was pleasantly surprised by how mesmerizing the rippling water surface was, coupled with the rather strong winds that pushed me more than I expected them to. After absorbing the views for as long as we could, the two of us took a shortcut to get back on the highway and eventually, head back to Bangalore, where life awaited us with wide open arms.
And just like that, unk9ja and I completed a lovely Sunday morning ride that covered a total of 175 kilometers. The lovely roads, the time spent staring at the tantalizing water and the unexpectedly sumptuous breakfast, all came together to make this a ride to remember.
