Absconding life convict nabbed in Guntur after 6 years on the run

Hyderabad: A life convict, who had been absconding for six years after being released on parole from Cherlapally Central Prison, was arrested by Kodad police in Guntur district on Friday. To evade arrest, the fugitive had severed all ties with his family and assumed a false identity while living in Guntur.
The convict, Boddu Thirupathi, 31, a hotel worker from Vanasthalipuram, was serving a life sentence for a 2012 murder case registered at Vanasthalipuram police Station. He was convicted in 2015 and imprisoned in Cherlapally jail. However, in Aug 2019, he was granted a 30-day parole and failed to return, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt.

Following his disappearance, the Cherlapally jail superintendent filed a formal complaint at Mattampally police station in Suryapet district. The case remained unresolved until a special team, working under the supervision of Kodad deputy SP M Sridhar Reddy, tracked down Thirupathi using advanced surveillance technology.
Investigations revealed that Thirupathi had completely cut off contact with his family and married a widow in Guntur, where he had been working in a local hotel to stay under the radar.
The accused is set to be produced before a court and will be sent back to Cherlapally jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
