Vijayawada: Guntur district police, in a significant crackdown on motorcycle thefts, under the leadership of SP Satish Kumar, successfully recovered 34 stolen two-wheelers valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh and arrested nine suspects involved in the criminal activities.
During a media briefing held at the Guntur district police office on Friday, SP Satish Kumar said that in response to complaints from victims, a special recovery drive was initiated to tackle the rising trend of thefts and apprehend those responsible.
As part of the operation, the police teams focused on specific areas within the east and west police sub-divisions in response to theft reports from localities such as Pattabhipuram, Old Guntur, Nagarapalem, and Tadikonda. The police utilised CCTV footage, examined criminal records, and collected technical evidence to identify and detain certain suspects believed to be involved in the thefts.
The police arrested nine persons: Bhoopathy Jagan, Sk Nooruddin, Akkisetty Akash, Uppur Rakesh, Madugula Ravi Teja, Sk Ashir, Kona Venkata Gopi, Tokala Rajesh, and Boyapati Jayasai belong to various areas of Guntur city and Tadikonda.
Furthermore, the police have also identified several buyers who purchased stolen vehicles, indicating a wider network involved in the thefts.
Satish Kumar highlighted that many of the thefts occurred due to lax vehicle security and parking practices, particularly at marketplaces, hospitals, and prayer areas, where vehicles were left unattended. He urged vehicle owners to adopt safety measures such as using handle locks, wheel locks, and GPS systems, and to avoid parking in open areas. He explained that 13 vehicles were recovered from the west police sub-division, 10 from the east police sub-division, 9 from the CCS division, and 2 from Tadikonda.
The SP stated that the investigation also revealed that the suspects frequently loitered around their neighbourhoods, targeting parked vehicles and occasionally engaging in additional thefts while using the motorcycles for transportation.
