Hyderabad: In a shocking incident on the city outskirts, a 35-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband during a birthday celebration at Abdullapurmet on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Sammakka, was a resident of Suryapet district and had been living separately in a rented house near her husband’s niece’s home in Abdullapurmet. She is survived by her husband Srinivas, a private employee, and their two children.
According to initial reports, the couple had been facing ongoing marital discord, primarily stemming from Srinivas’s suspicion about Sammakka’s fidelity. The conflicts reportedly escalated in recent months, and the couple had informed elders from both families about their decision to file for divorce.
On Thursday, both Sammakka and Srinivas attended a birthday party hosted at Rajeshwari’s house — Srinivas’s niece — to celebrate her daughter’s birthday. Following the cake-cutting ceremony, Srinivas allegedly grabbed the cake knife and attacked Sammakka, stabbing her multiple times.
Sammakka died on the spot due to severe injuries. The guests present were left in shock, and before anyone could react, Srinivas fled the scene.
The Abdullapurmet police reached the location soon after and launched an investigation. Srinivas was later taken into custody, though his formal arrest was yet to be announced at the time of reporting.
The body was shifted for post-mortem and further legal procedures are underway.
