NIZAMABAD: More than 10 people were severely injured in a stray dog attack in Yellareddy town of Kamareddy district on Saturday. The stray dog attacked pedestrians from Indiranagar Colony to the bus stand area, creating panic.
The victims rushed to the Government Hospital seeking anti-rabies vaccines (ARV), but were left disappointed as the hospital did not have the required stock. Due to the unavailability of ARV, the patients were referred to Government General Hospitals in Kamareddy and Banswada.
Angry over the shortage, the victims and their families staged a protest at Yellareddy Hospital, demanding immediate supply of vaccines. They raised slogans against the medical and health department and also lodged complaints with district officials over the lack of ARV at the hospital. The protesters further alleged that municipal authorities had failed to control the growing menace of stray dogs in the town.
Following the attack, residents expressed concern for their safety. While some managed to escape the stray dog, others tried to kill it in self-defense. Residents of Indiranagar also complained that they are troubled not only by stray dogs but also by increasing monkey attacks in the area. They urged Kamareddy district collector Ashish Sangvan to take prompt action to address the issue.
