Vijayawada: In the wake of continuous heavy rains triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, the NTR district administration and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) have intensified monsoon relief operations. With rainfall expected to continue for the next three days, officials are on high alert, staying on the ground to oversee emergency response efforts.District collector Dr G Lakshmisha directed officials at all levels—mandal, division, and district—to remain available in the field and ensure a quick response, especially in vulnerable low-lying areas. Emphasising the importance of preparedness, he instructed close coordination with village and ward secretariat staff to prevent water from entering homes.To support the efforts, a 24×7 control room has been established at the district collectorate with helpline number 91549 70454, while additional control rooms are operating at divisional levels for real-time situation monitoring and public assistance. A state disaster response force (SDRF) team was already stationed in the city for emergency interventions. Collector Lakshmisha stressed prompt action in case of tree falls and urged focus on drainage clearance, drinking water, electricity supply, and distribution of essential commodities.Municipal and district officers have been active in the field since Friday, working closely with engineers and local representatives to address waterlogging, clean blocked drains, and manage traffic flow in flood-prone areas. Authorities reassured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to minimise disruption and ensure safety during the monsoon spell.
