Hyderabad: A childless couple’s joy of having a child through artificial insemination was shattered when they realised that the fertility centre had allegedly used sperm from a donor instead of the husband.
According to available information, the couple had approached a fertility centre in Secunderabad seeking assistance with conception. They sought fertility treatment using the husband’s sperm, to which the centre agreed.
Following the IVF procedure by the fertility centre, the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a child. However, for some reason, the couple had DNA tests performed, which reportedly raised questions about the paternity of the child.
The couple, on suspicion that the fertility centre used sperm from another person instead of the husband, approached the police and lodged a complaint of cheating.
Following this, Health Department officials along with the Gopalpuram police are learnt to have carried out inspections at the fertility centre premises in Secunderabad on Saturday. They verified the licence and other permissions of the facility.
Suspicions were said to be raised about whether the fertility centre had adopted a similar method with other couples who availed services at their facility. The police are investigating.
