Hyderabad Emerges as Global Legal Tech Hub: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Hyderabad is fast emerging as a global hub for legal technology, significantly enhancing Telangana’s international profile, said IT and industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. He was speaking at the valedictory session of ‘The Grand Masters 2025 – Hyderabad Edition,’ hosted by Lex Witness at Novotel HICC, as the chief guest.

Sridhar Babu said the city now hosts over 120 legal tech startups innovating in areas such as e-discovery, dispute analytics and virtual IPR platforms. Reflecting on his journey from lawyer to politician, he underscored the transformative impact of technology on the judicial system, highlighting tools such as AI-driven legal research, virtual courtrooms, real-time case tracking and e-filing.

“Lawyers today are not just legal experts. They are business enablers, compliance advisers and tech-savvy consultants,” he said. Citing the NASSCOM Legal Tech Report 2025, he noted that nearly 63 per cent of large Indian enterprises are using AI and automation in their legal operations.

The minister described lawyers as architects of equality and defenders of constitutional rights. He urged the legal community to see the profession not merely as a livelihood but as a social responsibility. “Knowing the law is not enough—you must develop the ability to resolve complex issues in line with evolving demands. Your true clients are not just those who hire you but the entire legal ecosystem that depends on your integrity and competence,” he noted.

On judicial delays, Sridhar Babu pointed out a backlog of over 5.1 crore cases across the country as of December, with 4.5 crore pending in district courts alone. Telangana has over 10 lakh unresolved cases. “Justice delayed is justice denied,” he warned, calling for urgent reforms.

The event also featured Lex Witness representatives Abhijit and Srinivas, along with legal heads from various companies.
