Hyderabad: “It is very special that this film festival is being held here, in Hyderabad. Our films are now being watched not only locally or nationally, but internationally,” said actor Suman. He was speaking at the inauguration of the 17th Universal Film Makers Council (UFMC) International Film Festival Hyderabad Charminar 2025, on Saturday. The festival is jointly organised by UFMC and Genesis Ultima, and is being held at the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce.
Suman said Telugu cinema carries a rich legacy of history and culture, and has grown rapidly in recent years. He commended UFMC for showcasing the depth and creativity of Telugu cinema from Hyderabad on an international platform.
A featured film at the festival was September 10 – World Suicide Prevention Day, produced by Kargil War veteran Group Captain G.J. Rao and directed by Om Sai Prakash. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, director Om Sai Prakash said, “The main intention of our movie is to save people’s lives. We want to spread a message that suicide is not the solution for any problem.”
The movie weaves together five stories, each highlighting a different individual’s struggle. It follows a financially burdened farmer, two lovers whose families reject their relationship, a businessman in debt, a student who fails to secure good grades, and children unable to meet their parents’ expectations.
