Warangal: Following a series of decisive measures by both the Telangana and Central governments, the long-standing Mamnoor Airport project is now firmly on track to enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic development in the erstwhile Warangal district.
Marking a crucial step forward, the state government has released ₹205 crore for land acquisition. The airport’s construction is expected to be expedited soon, following the Union government’s clearance to bypass the 150-km radius restriction around Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
The release of funds has been widely welcomed by all sections of society, including elected representatives. There is a strong belief that the Mamnoor Airport will be transformative for the Warangal region.
Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya lauded the state government’s proactive approach, calling it a historic milestone. “The people have waited decades for this moment. Their dream is finally becoming a reality,” she said, while urging the Union civil aviation ministry to act swiftly and support the state’s initiative to fast-track the project.
Endowments minister and Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for backing the project. She noted that over the past month, she has been working closely with district in-charge minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, government adviser Vem Narendar Reddy, and officials to accelerate the land acquisition process.
“We are planning to develop Mamnoor Airport on the lines of Cochin International Airport in Kerala, spanning approximately 1,000 acres. Once completed, the airport will not only spur development in surrounding areas but also improve connectivity to the Siddipet district headquarters. It will attract industries, create jobs, and boost tourism in the region,” said Surekha.
The land acquisition process is progressing rapidly. The existing Mamnoor airport occupies 696.14 acres, and an additional 253 acres is being acquired from around 136 farmers in Reddipuram, Gadipalli, and Mamnoor villages. Revenue officials, led by Warangal district collector Satya Sharada, are actively collecting consent letters from landowners. The state government has proposed a compensation of ₹1.20 crore per acre, which has been positively received by affected families. Officials aim to complete the acquisition process by August 15.
With land acquisition nearing completion, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is preparing to begin construction. The Union civil aviation ministry has allocated ₹450 crore for the airport’s development. Work will commence once the state government confirms that land acquisition has been finalised.
