On July 29, the NHRC will engage directly with senior state government officers to emphasize the need for swift and effective redressal of rights violations.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will hold a two-day Open Hearing and Camp Sitting in Hyderabad on July 28 and 29, 2025, to address over 100 alleged human rights violations in Telangana. The event, to be presided over by NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian along with Members Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, will hear 109 cases in the presence of complainants and state officials at the MCR HRD Institute, Jubilee Hills, starting 10:00 am each day.

Key issues at the hearing include alleged abuse of police power, exploitation and denial of rights to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), denial of benefits from government welfare schemes, jail irregularities, and violations of women’s rights, including health concerns for pregnant and lactating mothers.

Cases involving the rights of students and complaints of child malnutrition—such as the reported prevalence among more than 47,000 children in the state—are also scheduled to be discussed.

On July 29, the NHRC will engage directly with senior state government officers to emphasize the need for swift and effective redressal of rights violations. This session will include a review of state actions taken in response to previous NHRC recommendations for the welfare of marginalized sections.

Representatives from civil society, NGOs, and human rights defenders will also be invited to share perspectives with the Commission at a dedicated session, followed by a media briefing at 3:30 pm to outline the outcomes of the hearings.

NHRC’s Open Hearings and Camp Sittings, held periodically since 2007 across various Indian states, aim to expedite justice delivery to victims by providing a platform for on-the-spot redressal of human rights complaints.

Telangana’s upcoming session follows similar recent initiatives, such as in Odisha last week, as part of NHRC’s nationwide drive to address persistent issues of rights protection and enforcement
