Shaikpet records highest rainfall in Hyderabad


Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Friday evening, with Shaikpet receiving the highest rainfall at 19.3 mm. Several localities reported moderate to heavy rain. While Himayatsagar received steady inflows of 250 cusecs, Osmansagar remained dry due to no rainfall upstream.

Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed the State capital and its surrounding areas on Friday night, with the MCRHRD IT Campus in Shaikpet receiving 19.3 mm rainfall, reported to be the highest in the city on Friday, until 9 pm.

Rainfall, which started around 5 pm, continued across several areas in the city, including Qutubullapur, Serilingampally, Patancheru, Uppal, Kukatpally, Kapra, Khairatabad, Musheerabad, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Balanagar, Shaikpet, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, and other parts of the city.


The Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) measured the rainfall up to 9 pm and uploaded the data in its portal. The Setwin Center at Suleman Nagar in Bahadurpura recorded the lowest rainfall at 2.3 mm.

While Himayatsagar continues to receive inflows, the GHMC officials are closely monitoring the water levels in Hussain Sagar and maintaining the Full Tank Level (FTL).

By 8.30 pm, the water level in Hussain Sagar stood at 513.20 meters, compared to the minimum water level of 514.75. The FTL of Hussain Sagar is 513. 41 meters.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) released water level data of the twin reservoirs, recorded at 5 pm, on Wednesday.

The water level at Osmansagar was 1,782 feet against its FTL of 1,790 feet. There were no inflows in the reservoir due to lack of rainfall in the upstream areas.

As for Himayatsagar, the recorded water level was 1,761 feet as against its FTL of 1,763 feet. However, the inflows were continuing at 250 cusecs into the reservoir, according to the official release.
