The Hyderabad Police rejected the allegations levelled by BRS working president and Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao, pertaining to the Jubilee Hills mob attack case on a television channel.
Jubilee Hills Station House Officer (SHO) K. Venkateshwar Reddy said the statements made by the MLA on July 25 were ‘serious and misleading’. He said a case of tampering with evidence was filed against Swetha, wife of BRSV leader Gellu Srinivas Yadav, and not an attempt to murder case as alleged.
Ms. Swetha was booked under Section 238 of the BNS (disappearance of evidence and giving false information). “No charges of attempt to murder have been invoked against her, as she was neither present at the crime scene nor had any direct involvement in the violence,” clarified the officer.
The officer said Mr. Srinivas Yadav was identified as the main accused in the attack and he was traced to a flat in the MLA Quarters, Hyderguda, a residence officially allotted to Alampur MLA Vijayudu. When a police team went to apprehend him, Ms. Swetha reportedly locked the doors and refused to cooperate. “Repeated requests for access were ignored for nearly an hour, and suspicions grew stronger when Mr. Srinivas’s mobile phone was heard ringing from inside the house. It was later confirmed that he was not at the residence but was hiding at BRS Bhavan,” said the officer.
Investigators further found that Mr. Srinivas had deliberately handed over his phone to his driver and instructed Ms. Swetha to delete data and conceal the device, indicating a clear attempt to destroy evidence.
