Liquor scam: SIT conducts searches in Hyderabad

Vijayawada: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam conducted searches at several locations in Hyderabad on Saturday. Among the places raided were the offices of Bharathi Cements, a company reportedly linked to former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.According to sources, the raids were initiated at Bharathi Cements’ administrative office in Banjara Hills, where a six-member team examined official documents and records. The company came under scrutiny after Balaji Govindappa, who was previously arrested in connection with the scam, was found to be serving as a director at Bharathi Cements. In addition to Bharathi Cements, the SIT also carried out raids at the premises of a company owned by Raj Kasireddy. Another location under investigation was a restaurant, reportedly associated with Chanakya, another accused in the case who is already under arrest. The SIT investigation focused on tracing financial trails and verifying how bribes related to liquor contracts were distributed. Technical data and surveillance records were used to determine the meeting locations, frequency of interactions, and the individuals involved.Officials revealed that funds were transferred to six locations in Hyderabad that functioned as distribution dens for the liquor scam proceeds. These locations were reportedly used for meetings and for handing over bribe money connected to liquor tenders in Andhra Pradesh.
