JioHotstar’s newest addition “Sarzameen” which was about to be Ibrahim Ali Khan’s theatrical debut , thankfully dodged the box office release.

Directed by Kayoze Irani and backed by Dharma Productions, the film features Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan in key roles.

Originally it was planned for a theatrical release, but the makers made a wise decision to release it on OTT and not at the box office.

After his first appearance in “Nadaaniyan”, “Sarzameen” was supposed to be Ibrahim’s grand debut.

Ibrahim Ali Khan in this movie showed that he has potential without overreaching it.

But “Sarzameen” itself carries a very underwhelming storyline, a movie which started with a patriotic tone, with a very sensitive topic, slowly loses its grip, and by the end of the movie the storyline as well as the emotions of this movie feels forced.

In hindsight, releasing Sarzameen on streaming might have saved the film as well as Ibrahim from harsh box office realities.

Viewers are more forgiving in the OTT space, and this soft launch gives Ibrahim room to grow.
