Ponnam accuses Centre of creating fertiliser shortage in T

Hyderabad: BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday accused the Centre of deliberately creating a fertiliser shortage to project the Congress govt in a poor light in Telangana.Addressing a media conference in Husnabad, he alleged that the BJP leadership in the state lacks a basic understanding of rural issues, agriculture, and farmers’ needs. The BJP state president doesn’t even know where rural areas, agriculture, or fertilisers come from.“Fertiliser manufacturing and allocation are under the Centre’s control, not the states,” he said. Interestingly, deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka, in a review meeting in Bhadradri Kothagudem, sought to assure the farmers that there is no fertiliser shortage. On his part, Ponnam accused the Central govt of adopting a discriminatory attitude towards Telangana. He urged BJP state president Ramchander Rao to visit Delhi and speak directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the required quantities of urea are supplied to Telangana. The BJP should stop playing politics with farmers’ livelihoods, he said.In a separate media conference in New Delhi, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy slammed BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and Padi Kaushik Reddy for making baseless allegations against chief minister A Revanth Reddy, unable to digest the growing popularity of Revanth and the Congress govt not only in the state but also at the national level in connection with having conducted a caste survey and the cause of social justice.
