Group Capt GJ Rao’s film ‘September 10’ wins 3 awards at Hyderabad Film Festival

Hyderabad: September 10, a hard-hitting film on suicide prevention by Kargil war veteran Group Captain GJ Rao, has bagged three major awards at the 17th International Film Festival of Hyderabad Charminar (IFFHC) 2025.

The feature film, which draws from years of research and investigation, was honoured with Best Social Film, Best Concept Film and Best Director. While Rao received the first two awards for bringing the sensitive subject to screen, senior filmmaker Om Sai Prakash was recognised as Best Director for helming the project.

Speaking after the event at Prasad Film Labs on Sunday night, Rao said, “These awards mean a lot because this subject is very close to my heart. I am happy that the message of suicide prevention is finally getting its due attention.”

He also credited Om Sai Prakash, who had earlier released Rao’s book on the same subject in 2015, for turning the story into a film. “I am grateful to him for bringing my vision alive on screen,” he added.

The festival was organised in association with the Universal Film Makers Council and Genesis Ultima Dubai.

September 10 is yet to hit theatres. More details about its release and promotions are expected to be announced soon.
