Vijayawada: Following the Universal Srushti IVF Fertility Centre scam that came to light in Hyderabad, health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav ordered the medical and health department officials to submit a comprehensive report on the functioning of the fertility centres in the state. The health ministry is of the view that there is a huge difference between the permitted fertility centres and the number of fertility centres operating on the ground in the state.In this regard, the health minister on Monday instructed the district medical and health officers (DMHOs), who are responsible for providing permissions for the fertility centres in their respective districts, to submit a comprehensive report. This report should contain information such as the total number of fertility centres for which permissions were given, inspections conducted by the DMHOs in fertility centres in 2024-25 in their respective districts, fertility centres functioning without relevant permissions, the number of complaints received against fertility centres, and various other issues pertaining to the functioning of the fertility centres.Meanwhile, NTR district DMHO Dr M Suhasini told the health minister’s office that the Universal Srushti IVF Fertility Centre operating in Vijayawada was shut down when her team visited for inspection on Monday. The DMHO informed the minister’s office that the fertility centre received permission in the name of Dr Namrata, who was involved in the alleged Hyderabad scam.
