Hyderabad: A private travel bus caught fire near a corporate company in Gachibowli, on Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported.
Gachibowli fire station officials said the reason was overheating of the engine. The bus was empty safe for the driver, who parked the vehicle on the road side and deboarded on seeing the fire. Officials were informed who reached the spot and doused the flames.
The fire led to a massive traffic jam, with many corporate employees heading towards their office finding themselves stuck. Gachibowli police later reached the spot and cleared the traffic.
Techie run over after school drop
Hyderabad: A software employee who was returning home after dropping her two children allegedly after a water tanker rammed into her on the Andhra Bank Road in Manikonda, Raidurgam, on Tuesday morning.
According to Raidurgam Inspector Ch Venkanna, the deceased, Shalini, was reportedly trying to overtake the tanker and was moving on the right side of the road. She spotted an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction and swerved to the left, resulting in the tanker running over her.
“She fell on the road. As she was not wearing a helmet, she received a severe head injury, leading to her death on the spot,” police said.
Shalini is survived by her husband, a software employee who also runs a business, and her two children. Her husband was in Vijayawada for a business trip when the incident occurred.
The deceased’s body was shifted to the Osmania mortuary for postmortem examination. A case was registered against the water tanker driver under Section 106(1) of the BNS (rash and negligent driving) and further investigation into the incident is underway.
Worker dies at construction site
Hyderabad: A 33-year-old construction supervisor, Nenavath Santosh, died after falling from the fifth floor of an under-construction building site of PVR Developers in Shankarpally, on Tuesday.
Santosh, a resident of Lingampalli thanda in Vikarabad district, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Following a complaint lodged by his wife, Shankarpalli police registered a case against the management of PVR Developers for alleged negligence and failure to implement basic safety measures. Santosh is survived by his wife and a two-year-old child.
Driver Killed in Hit-and-Run
Hyderabad: Dasari Bheemanna of Miyapur, a 62-year-old driver, died when an unidentified vehicle hit his autorickshaw and drove away, near Pillar 734 in KPHB early on Tuesday. He was staying at the house of his daughter Rajoli Anasuya in Vasanthnagar, KPHB Colony, as his wife was away in Raichur, and had left home at 2 am.
Police said that the Bheemanna was thrown from the vehicle due to the impact of the crash and the autorickshaw fell on him. He managed to crawl out and shifted the vehicle to the roadside but succumbed to internal injuries, investigation officer K. Srinivas Yadav.
“We found him lying unconscious at around 8 am and called for ambulance. At the hospital, he was declared brought dead,” the IO said. Efforts are on to identify the hit-and-run driver.
