Vijayawada: A police constable identified as K Kantha Rao, posted at A Konduru police station in NTR district, was injured in an alleged physical assault on Monday morning. The constable claimed he was attacked by Mekala Ravi, an advocate, and his associates using iron rods. The incident occurred near Tiruvuru, where Rao suffered injuries to his thumb and abdomen. He is currently undergoing treatment at govt hospital in Tiruvuru.Kantha Rao alleged that the group attempted to kill him with iron rods. He stated that he narrowly escaped the attack but sustained injuries in the process.Tiruvuru CI Giribabu confirmed the incident and stated that a long-standing monetary dispute exists between Kantha Rao and Mekala Ravi. “There is a long-pending financial issue between Kantha Rao and advocate Mekala Ravi, which is currently being heard in court. An arrest warrant was issued against Kantha Rao recently. However, a complaint from Kantha Rao has also been received in which he alleged that he was assaulted by Mekala Ravi and his associates, and further action will take place in due course,” the CI said.This is not the first incident linked to the dispute. On July 16, Kantha Rao allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide near the township area on the outskirts of Tiruvuru. He was found unconscious by locals, who alerted the police. He was initially admitted to govt hospital in Tiruvuru and later referred to the govt general hospital (GGH) in Vijayawada due to the severity of his condition.At the time, the attempted suicide was likely related to the same monetary dispute with Mekala Ravi. Police have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation into the alleged assault. Further legal action is expected based on the findings, CI added.
