Eluru SP asks public not to purchase mobile phones without proper documents


Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore has appealed to the public not to purchase mobile phones, which do not have proper documents. Persons who sell, procure or conceal missing or stolen mobile phones is liable for imprisonment under Section 317 of IPC, the SP cautioned.

The SP handed over 480 cell phones, valued about ₹57.60 lakh to the victims at a programme held here on Tuesday. The phones were traced through Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), he said. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pratap Shiva Kishore said the police recovered about 3,456, worth Rs.5.33 crore handed over them to the owners after verifying the documents.

“The Cyber Crime, Central Crime Station (CCS) and the law and order police along with their technical teams identified the phones in Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala State and in about 10 districts in Andhra Pradesh,” the SP said.

He asked the public to keep the IMEI number, purchase bills, find my device, password protection and other details safely. Additional Superintendent of Police N. Suryachandra Rao, DSP D. Sravan Kumar, CCS CI Venkateswara Rao and other officers were present.
