Nizamabad: Diarrhea cases have been increasing in the Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts over the past few days. The rise in cases is attributed to contaminated drinking water, sanitation issues, and food-related problems. As a result, many victims have been flocking to private and government hospitals for medical treatment.
Residents of Demikalan village in the Tadwai mandal of Kamareddy district have been struggling with diarrhea for some time now. Recently, the tragic death of a father and son in the village has been reported due to illness. In response, the health department organised a medical camp in the village and conducted health tests for the residents. Typically, during the rainy season, waterborne diseases tend to spread in towns and villages. Many tribal habitation thandas are also facing severe problems with contaminated drinking water. Damage to drinking water supply pipelines is significantly contributing to the contamination issues.
In some villages, the gram panchayat staff is neglecting the necessary chlorination to prevent drinking water contamination. The lack of sanitation measures is contributing to the spread of mosquitoes, fleas, and other insects, which poses significant health risks to the people.
M. Janardhan, a resident of Pothangal village, spoke to the Deccan Chronicle, stating that many residents have been experiencing health issues in recent days.
He mentioned that the number of cases of fever, diarrhea, and other ailments is rising. Janardhan urged the authorities to implement effective precautionary measures to prevent these diseases from spreading in rural areas. He also alleged that private hospitals are exploiting the situation by charging excessive fees for treatment.
