Hyderabad: Man booked for rape, cheating woman on pretext of marriage in Shamshabad


A 26-year-old woman from Shamshabad has accused a Karnataka man of raping and cheating her after promising marriage. The RGIA police have booked the suspect, who also allegedly threatened to leak private photos and videos if she reported the incident.

Hyderabad: A woman approached the RGIA police alleging she was cheated and raped by a man who had promised to marry her.

According to the police, the 26-year-old woman from Shamshabad and the suspect identified as Veeraiah from Karnataka had met at a relative’s wedding and became friends.


Subsequently, he proposed to her to which she accepted. Since then, they have met on several occasions. On July 22, Veeraiah after promising to marry, took the woman to a lodge in Shamshabad and raped her, the victim has alleged.

Recently when she asked him to marry her, he started avoiding and refused to marry her. Veeraiah further threatened to make their private photos and videos public if she shared about the matter to anyone.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the RGIA police have booked case of rape and cheating and efforts are on to nab the suspect.
