Irrigation officials prepare to release flood water from Prakasam Barrage | Vijayawada News


Vijayawada: In view of the release of excess floodwaters from the Pulichintala project following heavy inflows from upstream Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam projects, the irrigation authorities are gearing up to lift Prakasam Barrage gates to release a discharge of around 65,000 cusecs of floodwaters downstream into the sea. According to the Krishna River Conservator, the floodwaters from Pulichintala will reach Prakasam Barrage by Wednesday afternoon, with inflows expected to rise by three lakh cusecs in the coming days. The river conservator said that based on the inflows received, the barrage gates will be operated accordingly to release the excess water.In this regard, the irrigation authorities sounded a flood alert and advised concerned authorities and people of adjoining areas of Krishna River, both upstream and downstream of Prakasam Barrage, to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid any kind of untoward incidents. The irrigation official further said flood warnings will be issued at the prescribed levels as per the inflows received.
