Maserati hasn’t seen great times in recent. Sales were down in 2024, and there was even word of the brand going on sale. But these things could change because the carmaker might be coming up with a new flagship model as soon as next year. The highlight of this car will be a manual gearbox. There are not many details on the supercar yet, but Maserati engineering boss Davide Danesin suggested in a media interview that it’s possible such a vehicle could have a manual gearbox. According to Danesin, there are still customers who want “pure mechanical cars” and have no interest in electric vehicles. Earlier this year, Maserati cancelled the electric version of the MC20 due to weak demand. Maserati will most likely use the Granturismo as the base for the new car and use the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Nettuno V-6 engine. This engine develops 621 BHP in the new MCPura model. It is possible that the new car could be even more powerful, especially if it is a limited production model. “By doing a purely mechanical car, it does make sense to have a mechanical gearbox with a shifter,” Danesin said. “So why not?
