Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department to take steps to make Greater Hyderabad a pollution free city. Officials should prepare a comprehensive action plan in this direction keeping in view the requirements of the next 25 years. They were instructed to especially focus on evolving a permanent mechanism to check pollution in the core urban region.

The Chief Minister gave the directions during a review meeting on the functioning of the MA&UD department in Hyderabad on Tuesday (July 29, 2025). He wanted the officials to study the problems in major cities like Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru before finalising a plan of action to curb pollution.

Officials concerned were directed to study the problems faced in the major cities and the action plan should suggest solutions ensuring that there was no scope for recurrence of such problems in the State capital. He directed the officials concerned to concentrate on developing basic amenities in the twin cities as part of long term planning.

Mr. Reddy’s instructions follow his directions to replace overhead power lines with underground cables throughout the Greater Hyderabad limits. The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited had initiated works in this direction to cover the entire GHMC area within the Outer Ring Road limits and is said to be scouting for collaboration with the private sector experts in this regard.
