Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu on Tuesday inspected the roads in his home constituency Narsipatnam in Anakapalli district and expressed unhappiness over the bad conditions of roads, bridges and violation of traffic rules.
At a point he stopped overloaded vehicles and asked the police and RTA officials to take appropriate measures, book cases in the interest of public safety.
He said he stepped into action since the relevant departments such as the police, RTO, and roads and buildings department officials, responsible for taking steps, did not pay attention.
The Speaker expressed concern that Tallapalem bridge had suffered damages due to overloading. He warned that if vehicles were allowed to continue to ply with excess weight, there was a risk the bridge may collapse completely. He was also dismayed over the number of potholes he found on the main road from Makavarapalem to Tallapalem.
At some points, the Speakers personally checked the weight bills of heavy lorries passing near Tallapalem. Later, he issued orders to the police to seize the vehicles.
Seeing that negligence of the concerned departments was posing a threat to the lives of the people, the Speaker stepped in to resolve the issue immediately, TD workers told the media persons.
“These steps taken by him keeping in mind the public interest are commendable,’’ local people said.
