T sets benchmark in food welfare: Uttam | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday said the Congress govt in Telangana is setting new standards in welfare governance by ensuring food security and social justice for over 80% of the population.Speaking at public meetings across undivided Nalgonda during a ration card distribution drive, Uttam said no other state has implemented such a comprehensive and dignified public distribution system. As of July 28, Telangana has 97.9 lakh active ration cards covering 3.15 crore individuals. Since Jan 26, 7.95 lakh new cards were issued and 11.37 lakh people added to existing cards—bringing 33.97 lakh new beneficiaries into the system in just six months.“In a few months, we achieved what BRS couldn’t in 10 years. We’re not just distributing rice—we’re restoring dignity and inclusion to daily wage workers, widows, single women, persons with disabilities, and tribal families,” he claimed.Uttam added that the fine rice Scheme, offering 6 kg of quality rice per person each month, now covers the entire ration card base. Over 3.15 crore people are benefiting, making it India’s most inclusive food welfare programme, he added.
