Hyderabad: The Telangana State government minister Konda Surekha said that Rs 382.5 crore will be allotted for the comprehensive development of Jogulamba Temple in Alampur, Gadwal, Telangana.
In a meeting on Wednesday with senior officials, the Telangana government has planned for the development of the temple in Alampur.
Minister Surekha chaired a high-level review meeting at the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, where she emphasised the government’s unwavering dedication to temple development, particularly for the Jogulamba Shakti Peetham.
The minister directed officials to meticulously prepare infrastructure plans capable of accommodating a substantial increase in devotees, tourists, and visitors in the coming years. She reiterated the government’s firm stance against any compromise in preserving and enhancing the spiritual, cultural and architectural grandeur of this ancient shrine.
Historical and religious significance of Jogulamba Temple
The original temple is believed to have been built in the 7th century CE by the Badami Chalukyas, and it was reconstructed in 2005 by the authorities.
The Jogulamba Temple at Alampur holds historical and religious significance in the Southern region. Located at the sacred confluence of the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, Alampur is often referred to as ‘Dakshina Kasi’ (Varanasi of the South) and is considered the western gateway to Srisailam, a major Shaivite pilgrimage centre. The sanctity of Alampur is also mentioned in the Skanda Purana.
The Jogulamba Temple is one of the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethams, the most significant shrines dedicated to Goddess Shakti.
