Many from today’s generation may not realize just how popular Isha Koppikar was during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Apart from her work in Bollywood, she also appeared in several South Indian films, including the Telugu film “Chandralekha,” a remake of a Malayalam movie, directed by Krishnavamsi and starring Nagarjuna.
In a recent interview, Isha Koppikar looked back on her experience working on that film and shared a surprising anecdote. “I got slapped by Nagarjuna,” she said, recalling a particularly intense scene. “I was a fully committed actor and wanted to perform in a real, method way.”
She revealed that during the filming of an emotional scene in which she had to portray anger, she found it difficult to tap into the right emotions. To bring authenticity to her performance, she made an unusual request. She asked Nagarjuna to slap her for real.
“When I asked him to slap me hard, he was shocked and asked, ‘Are you sure?’ But I insisted. I needed to feel it to stay in the moment. Eventually, he slapped me—14 times,” she said with a laugh.
By the end of the scene, Isha had visible marks on her face. “I literally had slap marks,” she added, noting that Nagarjuna felt guilty afterward.
