Hyderabad: A 22-year-old undergraduate medical student at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad ended his life in the campus hostel room on Wednesday. The reasons for the extreme step are yet to be ascertained.The deceased was identified as Sahil Chaudhury from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Police are waiting for the victim’s family members to arrive from Jaipur before registering a case.Sahil, who joined the MBBS course at RIMS in 2023, shared a room in the campus hostel with two other students. At around 10:30 am on Wednesday, his roommates got ready to go to the library and asked Sahil to join them. “The exams for second-year MBBS students start on Aug 2. When they called him to the library to prepare for them, he said he would join them after a while,” said Adilabad II Town inspector Ch Karunakar.When Sahil did not turn up at the library, his roommates called him at around 11:30 am, but he did not answer. “They called other students from nearby rooms and asked them to check on Sahil. As there was no response when they knocked on the door, other students went to the back of the room and looked through the window. At around noon, they found Sahil hanging in the room and immediately forced open the door. They rushed him to the RIMS emergency room, where Sahil was declared dead,” said the inspector.Police said there was no suicide note and that the cause of death is yet to be ascertained. “Sahil last spoke to his father, Harpul Jat, a schoolteacher, at 10 am. Friends said that he had appeared slightly moody and upset since yesterday. He had no backlogs. His parents will arrive late tonight, and based on their statement, we will register a case,” said the inspector. The body was shifted to the morgue for autopsy.
