Youth and minor girlfriend held for ‘puppy theft and gold burglary’ in Vijayawada

A youth, M. Ajay Kumar, and his 17-year-old girlfriend were arrested by the Central Zone police for allegedly stealing a Shih Tzu breed puppy and later committing a burglary in Vijayawada.

According to police, the duo visited a house in Vasavi Nagar in the One Town area on July 26 under the pretext of looking for a job. While there, they escaped with the pet dog. Following a complaint, a case was registered and an investigation was launched.

The very next day, they returned to the same locality and allegedly burgled another house, stealing 365 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹20 lakh and a motorcycle. They then fled to Nandigama in Krishna district and took shelter at a relative’s house belonging to Ajay Kumar’s family.

“The accused attempted to sell the Shih Tzu puppy and contacted several people over the phone. Based on mobile call data and CCTV footage, we traced and apprehended them,” said Patamata Circle Inspector V. Pavan Kishore on Wednesday.

Police recovered the stolen puppy and seized the entire stolen property, including the gold and the bike. The minor girl will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, while Ajay Kumar will be presented in court, the CI added.
