Duo snatch elderly woman’s mangalsutra in KPHB colony

An elderly woman was injured during a chain-snatching incident in Kukatpally Housing Board Colony (KPHB) in the early hours of Thursday, July 31.

The victim, identified as 70-year-old Chinta Shyamala, a homemaker residing near Bhuvan Vijaya Ground in phase 3, was attacked at around 6.20 a.m. while she stepped out to buy milk. According to her complaint, a blue car with two unidentified men approached her from behind while she was walking towards the milk shop near her residence.

One of the occupants of the vehicle reportedly called out to her in Hindi and asked for directions by showing her a piece of paper. As she replied that she didn’t understand the language and moved ahead, the car followed her and stopped nearby. One of the men alighted from the vehicle, again pretended to seek directions and suddenly pushed her to the ground. In the scuffle, he snatched her mangalsutra.

The victim, however, resisted and managed to hold on to a part of it. However, the duo fled with the gold part weighing about 50 grams.

A case was booked and an investigation is underway. The KPHB police are scanning CCTV footage in the area to trace the suspects.
