Hyderabad:The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and South Central Railway (SCR) have decided to eliminate all level crossings within GHMC limits by constructing grade separators, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and enhance train safety.
The decision was taken at a joint coordination meeting held on Wednesday between GHMC and SCR officials. The agencies also resolved to address long-pending drainage issues at Hyderabad Yard, Moula Ali Yard and Hafeezpet Yard, where the discharge of drain water onto the railway tracks causes flooding during the monsoon and threatens safe train operations.
It was agreed that joint inspections would be conducted at these vulnerable locations and necessary measures taken to mitigate the risks.
The meeting also reviewed the status of several Road over Bridges (RoBs) and Road under Bridges (RuBs) pending within the GHMC limits. These include the Ranigunj RuB, Sanathnagar RuB, additional RoB at Fatehnagar and RuBs at Gundlapochampally and Malkajgiri. Progress on these projects has been delayed due to issues related to land acquisition and utility shifting. GHMC has now committed to expediting clearances to facilitate the commencement of work.
Officials also discussed the unresolved issue of railway land under GHMC possession. Both parties agreed to work towards an amicable settlement. SCR assured its cooperation in resolving bottlenecks to improve traffic flow on both sides.
As part of monsoon preparedness, GHMC has intensified door-to-door awareness campaigns on vector-borne disease prevention and is conducting inspections across the city. These measures are being implemented under a Special Sanitation Drive launched on July 29, which has already covered 30 wards. The drive aims to complete all 150 wards by August 8.
