Hyderabad: A resident of Vanasthalipuram was duped of Rs 1.55 lakh in a medical fraud by a few people who falsely claimed to offer cancer treatment through a Delhi-based entity.
The victim’s wife is undergoing treatment for breast cancer at a reputed city hospital. He was contacted by a woman identifying herself as Khushboo, who posed as a representative of the firm and offered an “anti-cancer protocol” for Rs 1.55 lakh. He initially paid Rs 5,000.
When further payments were sought, the couple cited financial hardship. He was then approached by another woman, Akanksha Singh, who claimed to be associated with a finance firm and offered to process a loan.
However, contrary to the assurances, a loan of Rs 1.55 lakh was sanctioned and directly transferred to the firm. No medicine was delivered, and repeated attempts to reach the accused failed. Realising he had been cheated, the man filed a police complaint.
