Arch Manning Receives Blunt Reality Check After Jimmy Haslam’s Recent Comments originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Throughout this summer, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has been one of the more talked about players in college football.
He is the nephew of legendary NFL quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning and is leading an SEC school this season. Former Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd recently started rumors that Manning might declare for the 2026 NFL Draft if he plays well this season.
Will the Cleveland Browns Draft Manning?
Cowherd claimed the Cleveland Browns are interested in the Longhorns quarterback since they don’t have a definitive starter. But the team’s owner, Jimmy Haslam, shut down those claims.
“I think if you know the Manning family, they won’t mention Arch at all,” he told reporters during the Browns’ training camp. “I bet he stays in college for another two years. So that’s not worth discussing.”
College football analyst Danny Parkins cautioned that Manning needs time to develop in college before facing the hype and expectations of the NFL.
“Arch is going to get that chance, but normally when it’s a guy that gets all the hype beforehand, it’s tough to live up to,” Parkins said during an episode of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.” “Jimmy Clausen obviously didn’t. Trevor Lawrence ended up being the No. 1 overall pick and clearly hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far, though the Jaguars gave him that second contract.”
Manning is a talented quarterback that can pass and scramble well, but he will need time to develop his game more before taking that next step into the NFL draft.
